Drehksturm WIP Part X

I'm gonna keep this kinda short tonight, as I gotta work in a few hours and I'm beat.  I decided to make the skirts a little different and added end caps to the upper parts.  I think it flows and adds a lot to that area.  The parts I did today are the white ones.  I'm sleepy.  Photos!

Drehksturm WIP Part IX

I didn't do much today, however I did add the vulcans to the head, and I added the monoeye.  I haven't figured out how to make the Mono eye castable but I will no worries.  I also plan to add a lens for the head crest laser and the scope on the rifle.  Those will be the clear parts.  Anway besides this all I did was primer the model.  Here are the photos.  And by the way the surface quality on the rifle still sux.  I may actually have to do my best to surface it and maybe recast it, as I'm not happy with selling casts with surfaces so rough.  Anway photos!

Drehksturm WIP Part VIII

Ok so it was yesterday that I actually worked on this stuff, but I'm posting today cuz I was le tired.  I did a lot of little stuff, but it added a lot to the detail I think.  I added some plates to the head, I scribed some on the front crotch armor, made the remaining hand guard, and added some detail to the stabilizer/backpack unit.  I haven't made any more molds yet, but I will probably this coming week, as I tend to make molds on days where I haven't done any building.  Makes me feel productive while I'm playing video games.  hehe.

Here is the scribing on the crotch armor.

Here is the other hand guard:

For the head and backpack, I added some ridges that make it look like the rudders move, I added some thruster vents, and some random armor ridges that just make it look cool.  hehe.

Drehksturm WIP Part VII

On the mold making and casting front I have learned much in the last few weeks and I may put together a tutorial on a quite efficient way to make the perfect mold the first time, with little waste, that turns out great parts the first time.  (some exceptions may apply like parts with deep undercuts, but it's worked for me for the last 4 molds I've made and I'm really happy with it.)  I am using Smooth-On's Mold Max 27T translucent 27 shore hardness RTV silicone for the molds and if you have a pressure setup it is amazing stuff.  Cheaper than Mold Max 30 too.  I am in love with this silicone for real.  I will go into more detail on the actual process in the tutorial for any who are interested.

Drehksturm WIP Part VI

Tonight I decided that since I have the upper and lower arm armor parts being molded I should try to add something to the backpack and stabilizer unit.  I added a lock mount for the propellant tank and I added a small thruster to the under side of the stabilizer.  I will add more thrusters and some more details later on to finish the part up.  Here is what I did today.

Drehksturm WIP part V

Alrighty guys I have almost finished making molds for the leg parts.  Just the rear calf thrusters next.  Then that part of the conversion kit will be replicable.  I think I will make the mold for that part tonight or tomorrow.  I also want to start making the arm molds soon.  One thing though for any who are gonna want to buy one of my casts for the conversion kit; the surface quality will not be totally smooth like a mainstream kit, it will require some surface priming.  Just so I warned ya.  Otherwise everything will hopefully fit perfectly and look great.  My parts I demolded today just snapped right on and look great to me!  Here is my progress.

Drehksturm WIP Part IV

Ok it's been about a week, and I've been making some of the molds to get this guy casted.  I do still of course have some more work to do on the core, and the backpack, (and the head and shoulders) but I can start casting other parts.  I'm trying to make casts that are good workable quality so folks don't have much work to do to prep them.  That is the goal, but I'm sure there will be at least the regular amount of flash removal and possible putty needed per normal resin kits.  Anyway, here the Drehksturm with a casted knee, toe and heel.  I also made another ankle guard that has more shape to it.  I have the other one also if anybody wants that with the kit, but I'm gonna stick with the new one.  After I detail it up that is.  I also filled in the hollow spots in the leg and calve armor so it's mad heavy now, so I need to rubber band the armor.  Of course the casts will weigh less and those will be probably glued in place, even though they just snap right on the existing leg armor pins.  Well here is the progress, I will hopefully have more soon, just like many of you guys work is a lil bit demanding right now, so I may not do much in the way of building for a few weeks, just mold making.  Mold making is a bit on the "not my favorite thing to do" side, but totally necessary, and I am learning to get better at it as I go.  The downside to this is that I have many more failures than successes.  I guess I don't mind too much as I like to learn, and I can also play video games while stuff is curing so I can destress and feel like I'm making constructive use of my time.  Well here is this guy's progress.  Enjoy!  Or I will eat your face!

Drehksturm WIP Part III

Success!!  Nuff said perhaps, but I'm gonna say more.  Woot!  60 psi worked like a dream.  Having pour spouts for all the undercuts worked perfectly as well.  The silicone is beautiful in my opinion and I may just hae a frontrunner for my new staple silicone.  This cast was pretty straightforward.  I hope the rest are this way!

Drehksturm WIP Part II

I got my Rifles for the Drehksturm in today!  Yay!  They did however require me to shave the surface of the models with an xacto blade for about 4 hours.  Much as I would have liked to receive them ready to cast, such was not.  Oh well, xacto fixed that.  I prepped the larger rifle and took some photos of it being held by the Drehksturm.  LOOOK!
